02.11.13 - Maker's Mark Presents Brunch
by Elizabeth Orrick
December 6, 2012 - 11:00am
Nothing makes me want to day drink like the holidays. Unfortunately our fair city has an law that you can't imbibe on Sunday morning before 1:00 pm, which is absolutely nonsensical if you think about it because everyone knows that Sunday is a prime day for brunch, and brunch in a prime excuse for drinking before noon, and the serious alcoholics obviously will bring a flask anyway. Fortunately, if you can hold out until after 1pm, Maker's Mark Lounge, on 4th Street, has your back.
Maker's Mark Lounge is serving brunch every Sunday from 11am to 4pm, and they are offering what I consider a magnificent deal--$10.00 bottomless mimosas and bloody marys. I don't know about you, but those little $5 mimosas from normal brunch places add up fast for those of us with hole-y livers and family Christmas gatherings to avoid.
The new brunch menu will feature items created by Chef Allen Sims. This menu has pumpkin waffles with honey butter and bourbon maple syrup (why didn't I ever think to add bourbon to maple syrup before? that icy sweet maple syrup taste will go perfect with warm bourbon, provided Chef Sims does not make the dreadful mistake of using fake maple flavored syrup instead of the real deal!) and cinnamon rolls with bourbon vanilla frosting. If you're in the mood for something less sweet, there is also a chorizo omelet and country ham with green tomatoes, to name a few options.
All joking aside (I am not really a day drinker, nor do I wish to avoid my family!) this brunch sounds fantastic! The fun begins this coming Sunday, December 9. Visit Website

Louisville Local Makes Ladies Swoon
For those of you who have not heard local favorite Butch Rice, be prepared to fall in love. This singer song writer is a professional who has played all over the Louisville area. I had the pleasure of seeing him again on Friday at Maker’s Mark on 4th St. in an intimate setting where he strummed his guitar and serenaded the audience. A smooth voice that is reminiscent of John Mayer and sweet melodies that rock you will be sure to end any date on a high note or soothe you after a long week. His new album “Fall for Me” is available online and he will be playing again on Saturday, February 2 at 8:00 Uncle Slayton’s with other local favorites. Expect to hear Butch play songs from his new album such as “Wasted”, a track I have had on repeat for the last three days, as well as covers from Edwin McCain, Gin Blossoms, John Mayer, and many other nineties favorites. 03.20.12 - Recipe Request
I was recently in Louisville on a road trip. We found a gift certificate on Restaurant.com, so we decided to stop in for lunch. I had the most amazing pesto pasta salad (BOURBON PESTO PASTA SALAD) for my side. I took diligent notes on how I could recreate this wonderful salad, but can't figure out what is in the dressing! I know you have some recipes on your site, but not that one. I was hoping you would be willing to share that recipe with me.
Thank you,
Kerry Schmidt

"I wanted to say thank you again for the dinner on Thursday night. It completely blew away all expectations we had and will definitely be back. We have bragged to all of our friends about how good the food was and how nice of an atmosphere it is. I can't say enough how grateful we are. Thanks again for a wonderful evening from the both of us. Again, tell Torrie thank you she was amazing"

March 3, 2008 Yelp.com One of the best bars in KY -- Very modern, classy, and fantastic cocktails... the 4th St. live thing was decent, but this bar really stood out as the place to be seen in Louisville.

November 8, 2008 Yelp.com Absolutely outstanding. Bar far the best place we went to eat in Louisville. It's got a cool, lounge-y feel, with good music and fireplaces, couches, etc. A very cool vibe.
Torri was our waitress and she was fantastic! She had great recommendations for food and drinks, and she was prompt, friendly and basically everything you'd want in a waitress.
Our food was scrumptious. We started off with the WARM GOAT CHEESE SKILLET: Creamy Goat Cheese, Fresh Herbs, Shiitake Mushrooms, Smoked Tomatoes and Crusty Bread (we got ours without the mushrooms), and it was so incredibly yummy, my mouth is watering 3 weeks after the fact. I just can't recommend something more. If you like cheese, do yourself a favor and get this!!!
We both got the same entree and it sounded amazing as well: BUTTERMILK FRIED BREAST OF CHICKEN: Bourbon, Honey, Buttermilk Dipped Skillet Fried Chicken, Lemon-Basil Mashed Potatoes, Spicy Greens with a Bourbon Jus (see the picture). And it was amazing. I generally eat chicken in small quantities because I just lose my appetite for it after about half a piece, but I ate just about the entire thing. It was great because it was boneless, and the batter was SO GOOD. Juicy, flavorful YUMMY chicken!! The potatoes were good too, but would have probably preferred to just have plan mashed potatoes. The spicy greens weren't really my thing, but they certainly were flavorful.
I got an awesome drink which I believe was called the "Spicy Lady." I have no idea what was in it anymore, but it was a vodka drink and it was red and I had two (three?) because they kicked ass.
If you have the option of eating in Louisville, do yourself a favor and eat here!! You will not be disappointed!

January 5, 2009 Yelp.com This restaurant has great ambiance and the food was very good. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. It was the first time we had ever tried the most excellent Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, which is Kentucky Ale in freshly decanted bourbon casks. I don't exactly remember what we had for dessert, but I remember it being very good. I would eat to this place again!

June 15, 2009 Yelp.com I happened to be at Fourth Street Live! this weekend and stopped into the Maker's Mark Lounge. I've always been a fan of their bourbon and I was hoping their food would measure up to.
I have to say the Prime New York Strip Seasoned Steak, Potato, and Marinated Chipollini Onions with a Chateaubriand Butter was amazing. I've had better steaks and I've had better done potatoes, but the pairing was awesome. I was remarking to my friend that I should try to get the exact preparation down so I could tell the next steakhouse chef how it's done.
Also, the staff was right on the ball with everything. Our waitress even took the time to come up with the perfect drinks based on what our tastes ran and what each had ordered.
The next time I'm in Louisville, I'm definitely coming back.

June 18, 2009 Yelp.com Wow, Louisville has changed. Fourth street sort of reminds me of Beale or Bourbon Streets without so many people.
Bourbon lover here was in heaven. A bourbon list that is larger than most of the wine lists my wife gets when we sit down for a meal. Can't decide? that's cool. They have bourbon flights that you can order up to sample. A few of my faves are the Elijah Craig 18 yr and Pappy Van Winkle 20 yr. As Stifler's mom will tell you, that is well aged. Do yourself a favor and try something that is tough to find.
The food was good too. We just had small bites and I can't really remember exactly what we had, but we liked it. Very nice and modern lounge too.

October 12, 2009 Maker’sLounge.com I just wanted to let you know that we had about 30 people with us and had a ball at Maker's Mark on Saturday. We are still talking about it. Thank you, although I was worried about everyone being disappointed with the seating - it was perfect!!! Thank you for helping us put a fabulous end on an already great nite. We celebrated a birthday, a reunion, and friends just hanging out! Thanks again. Customer Review
November 4, 2009 On behalf of myself and the other members of our party I would like to thank you for one of the best dinning experiences we have had in quite some time. The crowning effort would be your personal attention to detail so much so that any prior experience was erased, which it has been. We can all say without exception that we will recommend Makers to our friends confidently. Our server, Brian, anticipated our every need and didn't falter for a single moment. Thanks again for a lovely evening.

March 5, 2010 I just wanted to send a quick thank you to you and the Maker's team for making my birthday a memorable one. The waitress that worked our VIP booth and standing guests was very attentive to our needs and treated us very well. The bartend staff, as always, was fantastic. Please send my kudos along to your entire Maker's team for doing a great job!
And lastly, thank you for setting us up with the VIP happy hour. Really appreciate it!

May 11, 2010 This is the best bar in the 4th Street area, that is if you want a chill lounge vibe, a place to sit, a more mature crowd, and some great cocktails.

May 6, 2010 4th street live is nothing but a collections of bars and restaurants in a upscale development to revitalize downtown Louisville. I can't hate on it, however being in town for DERBY weekend I can despise the obscene cover charges at all these places.
After walking around and scoping out the clubs and bars, we settled on Maker's Mark, however we managed to get inside without paying the highway robbery $30 cover charge by simply walking around. (point Amit).
Walking inside, the decor is like an upscale lounge/bar with a dance floor in the middle. A cute brunette was spinning on the 1s and 2s with a solid set of hip-hop and club bangers. Plenty of eye candy inside for boys and girls, although seemed like more dudes inside this establishment but many were just drinking and ignoring the dames in their fancy shmancy hats.
Just because this place is called Maker's Mark, doesn't mean they dont have other types of alcohol. Lest yourself be warned though, bourbon is unforgiving and I surely paid the price, although their selection of bourbon is quite expansive. My liver hated me the next morning as it does after many nights.
There are plenty of hotties inside this place though (I'm guessing DERBY weekend didn't hurt either). I'd go back to this place, although I'm not sure I'd ever pay the cover.

April 17, 2010 As a general rule, I'm not a fan of Fourth Street Live, but I've had good experiences with Maker's Lounge the handful of times I've been.
The food is good. They used to have lamb chops on their starter menu that were amazing. The warm goat cheese starter and shrimp and grits entrée were pretty tasty.
The drinks are good - decent pours from the bartenders. They have a good bourbon selection, as you would expect. I'm not a vodka drinker, but they didn't seem to have much in the way of flavored vodkas - at least from what I could tell from my friends' orders. (I don't find this to be a problem, but some might)
Kudos to the wait staff who managed to coordinate checks for a dozen women with no errors, despite the fact that we didn't stay in the same seats and they had a shift change while we were there. (Seriously - that was impressive)
